Pua and the Kalo Plant

Pua and the Kalo Plant is an educational comic designed to introduce elementary-aged children to environmental stewardship through Indigenous Hawaiian environmental knowledge. Guided by Pua, a wise pueo (owl), readers learn the sacred story of the kalo plant, explore the ecological system or ahupuaʻa, and discover how principles of reciprocity, care, and responsibility can strengthen relationships between people and the natural world.
